Rolled back in from Men at the Cross a few hours ago with an upset stomach - something I ate didn't agree with me much, possibly the spoiled milk at this AM's breakfast at the Courtyard where we stayed. Blech.
The conference was good. When it comes time for me to break my routine I always get a case of the I-don't-want-to's, but going was a rewarding experience.
The key takeaway for me, as it was for several people in the Iola bunch, is that we often know what we're supposed to do - what God would have us do - with regard to "Situaton X" but we're too scared/busy/lazy to do it. So if you feel called to do something and are waiting for all the pieces to fall into place first, forget that and get your butt in gear!
Sounds right to me.
On another note, one pleasant surprise was meeting Mark Schulz, my manager at TAMUS, there since I had no idea he was going to be there.

David and I just got back from a vacation in Indiana - just the two of us. We had a good time and got to visit with all of our relatives in that area.
Highlights included:
- Kayaking around Long, Mud, and Little Bower Lakes with my dad and step-mom
- Riding the rides, etc., at The Fun Spot, which is much improved from when I was a kid
- Seeing mom's uncle Ken's kids - Lynne, Dan, and Laura - for the first time in at least 25 years
- Teaching Dave to play Canasta
- Torturing mom and Tom with Thai food - the horror, the horror!
- Playing 9 holes out at the Hamilton golf course where Grandpa Herb taught me to play
It was good to get away with him and give him the attention that mom and the twins usually have directed at them. He's such a nice young man, much more so than I was at his age.
After that I went to my 3rd ArmadilloCon writers conference & presented a cut-down version of Recognition, Chapter 1. Reviews were mixed, let's say. But I remain undeterred.
And tomorrow it's off to Men at the Cross with my posse from Iola. I was unable to talk any of my former compadres into going with us, unfortunately.
After that the grind starts up again: school, the early wakeup times that go along with it, plus football and band events, etc. Summer's pretty much over, sadly.

Dave, Monica, and I went to Highland Lakes Camp last week with the church. I had the same 3 boys as last year and Monica and Tammy had 12 girls. We had a good time with the activities and the boys and I had some good, but short, study sessions in the morning and evening.
Here's the link to the church web site where there's a video Monica made and some pics.
David really impresses me in his knowledge of the Bible and what it means to be Christian. He is such a good kid; I hope he'll always stay on this course.
Here's the link to some pics of us there.
